This knowledge base serves to demonstrate how to enable 2FA for Smartermail accounts.
Initially, the verification code can be generated using an authenticator app such as Google or Microsoft Authenticator (available for both iOS and Android), or it can be sent to your recovery email address on file.
To enable 2FA, follow these steps:
1. Sign into the mail server at http://mail.yourdomain.com
2. Navigate to Settings (Gear icon)
3. Find the Two-step Authentication option
You will then have the option to choose whether the verification code should be sent via email or through an authenticator application.
Recovery Email Address: This option will send a verification code to the recovery email address you have on record. Note: If you do not receive the verification code in your inbox, please check your junk or spam folder.
Authenticator App: You will retrieve your verification code using your authenticator app (e.g., Microsoft Authenticator, Google Authenticator).
4. Click Next
5. Scan the QR code and enter the verification code it sends you, then click Check to enable Google Authenticator.
The following example displays a Google Authenticator code:
From now on, whenever you log into http://mail.yourdomain.com, you will need to enter the new verification code.
