Announcement - DNS Flag Day 2019

Dear Valued Customers,

Date: Start from 1st Feb 2019

Announcement detail:

DNS software and service providers listed on following link have agreed to coordinate removing accommodations for non-compliant DNS implementations from their software or services.

As a result, domains hosted on servers which do not fully support EDNS0 may be unreachable or suffer from degraded performance.

Background of EDNS0

Extension mechanisms for DNS (EDNS) is a specification for expanding the size of several parameters of the Domain Name System (DNS) protocol which had size restrictions that the Internet engineering community deemed too limited for increasing functionality of the protocol.

The first set of extensions was published in 1999 by the Internet Engineering Task Force as RFC 2671, also known as EDNS0.

What action do I need to take as a customer?

Our Windows/Linux shared hosting clients that using Exabytes Network default DNS will not affected by this implementation.

For client that host under Windows hosting which is using Microsoft DNS server will have problems detected but still operating and will not affected after dns flag day.

Microsoft is pending to release the update for the remaining detected problems.

If you are using a multi-provider setup (Part of your NS records point to us, and some point at another provider), you should test the other provider using the above test link.

What if the test result show not compliant?

The test link is particularly strict and considers any timeout, even when received in response to a non-EDNS0 query, to be a failure.

This kind of timeouts are not uncommon and can be caused by transient network events.

What if you are using third party DNS?

If you are using a third party DNS, You can check whether your domain will be affected by this change at https://dnsflagday.net.

If the tested domain fails the above test, please contact your current DNS operators.
